First Some Skills

An introductory course in Blacksmithing at Orange TAFE exceeded all expectations as we began by making our own fire rake to manage the forge fire.

Then exercises in bending on the anvil to make rings and S hooks to match a specification; before long a barbecue tripod was made. On the second weekend we learned the basics of heat treatment and made a punch, later to be used in making rivet holes for wall hooks.

Forging a small piece of square bar into an ornamented hook had me firmly hooked.

I've bought the anvil and have started making plans to build the forge.
